Pip, Zip, Hatch, Peep

The Bigroom incubated chickens!  Holy smokes what a fascinating, fun experience it was!  Keagan and I loved every part of it!  The candling, to see what ones were making it along the way, wow towards the end seeing the veins then seeing the feathers was mind blowing! Cracking open store bought eggs vs fertilized eggs to show what a fertilized egg vs non fertilized egg looks like.  Taste testing non fertilized vs fertilized (store bought vs non store bought).  4 of the chicks piped, zipped and hatched during the night but one piped, zipped and hatched during school so we all got to watch it!  Sadly Little Foot didn't make it, he was so much smaller than the rest of the other chicks that during the night when they huddled he got smothered.  But the other 4 did and thrived.  The kids absolutely loved getting to watch the chicks grow so quickly and getting to hold them while they read.  It was so much fun and we can't wait for next years big science activity with Mrs. De!
