Kabree, Hanna and Justice
Shaving Cream and Cornstarch
While this idea looked great on pinterest it was a horrible mess with these three and I will never do it again! 45 minutes of entertainment gave me 35 minutes of clean up! I have let Kabree play with shaving cream lots of times and had minimal mess, maybe it was because there was 3 kiddos to clean up after or because the cornstarch/shaving cream combo makes for one slicker than snot floor and I let them add food coloring which they spilled a bit. Also lets add with 3 there was a bit of flinging which contributed to the clothes needing washed and the hair as well : ). But the kids had fun and that was the whole purpose so it was worth it all the same. The kiddos did like the idea of feeling the shaving cream and then how the texture changed after adding the cornstarch, plus they always love adding food coloring to anything to watch how the colors change and what colors mixed make new colors. I just wish I would have taken a picture at the end to show just what I mean when I say 35 minute clean up time ; ).
Our eggs soaking in vinegar
Our "naked" egg
Heather was creeped out by it : )
Hanna throwing our "naked" egg
The end results, slimy, rubbery film with a regular old yolk inside
We decided this would be a good experiment to go with our letter E activities. We soaked our eggs in vinegar for 24 hours, Justice and Kabree wanted to soak theirs longer while Hanna wanted to touch and play with her egg. They were fascinated by the feel and look of the "naked" egg. They were so curious if the inside was rubbery or still a yolk. I suggested to Hanna to lightly drop the egg from two inches from the ground, then gradually increase the height i.e. start at 2 inches, increase to 4 inches. Hanna started out with the 2 inch suggestion, to which the egg lightly bounced and the kids were amazed, then Hanna excitedly dropped the egg from 2 1/2 feet, to which the egg splattered! The kids were again amazed at the feel of the egg yolk itself but also the outer rubbery shell that was left as well. This experiment was next to no effort and super cool in this Mammy's eyes! Very curious to see how the longer soaking eggs will hold up!
I just have to say how much I love that our kitchen floor is our craft, experiment, picnic, even baking area, we have so much fun and Kabree's favorite place in the house is probable the kitchen because of all the fun we have in there. Don't worry I do clean the floor and we never eat off of it ; ).
