Hunting Season

Hunting this year has been successful. We were able to go out hunting with lots of family and friends and were able to fill a few tags. Opening day of deer season was pretty exciting as Cayleb was able to tag out that morning and then that evening Keagan was able to tag out. This years buck for Keagan was a good one for me because I was finally able to convince her to shoot my gun at her buck that was bedded down at 390 yards. She made a great shot on her buck and put him right down. Icing on the cake was that we were able to get a video of her making the shot and her comment that she actually liked shooting my gun.

After opening day I continued to look for a deer but the hunting goal quickly shifted to Kabree's elk hunt. This is the 4th time that she has been lucky enough to have this tag, and she was staying true to the idea that she had to shoot a branch horned bull. Opening morning of elk season we were able to get on a large herd of elk with multiple bulls in the herd. I told her to pick out whatever bull she wanted and stick with him until Eric was able to find a bull. After they both had their bulls picked out, I did a small count down and they both shot. Kabree did great and dropped her bull with one shot at 465 yards. This really helped her regain all of her confidence in shooting and in her ability to shoot my gun. Eric was able to get his bull but he ran over the hill. It was an exciting morning and Kabree was able to finally tag out.

After my girls both got to shoot something, I started to look for myself. On the last day of the season I invited Justice to go out with me to see if we couldn't get him his first buck. We were able to make it happen just as the light was fading and he was able to make a great shot on his buck at 330 yards with my gun. After that excitement and the deer hunt being over, the elk cow season started. Adam Packer had called me to ask if I wanted to go out with him, where he had been seeing some elk. I had meetings that morning and couldn't go, but was able to meet up with him that night. Adam was able to tag out on his first ever big game animal and Eric and I were there to help him out and video. It was a great hunt and it got me all excited to shoot something with my gun as well. I figured enough other people got to shoot my gun so why not me. So over the next few days I started to look for an elk myself. I was finally able to get in front of a large herd and was able to shoot a cow at 533 yards. It was a great this year to spend time with family and friends out hunting. A big shout out to Eric, as he was my companion for most of the hunting adventures and packing out of elk this year.
